The perfect pickle: Heifetz

I might as well stop writing pickle reviews because 1) they're not very good and 2) I've found the perfect pickle. Heifetz kosher dills are available at Big Lots. I think they're an off-brand and I've never seen them anywhere else. These are the perfect blend of crunch, small size, and pickly, salty goodness. Now I need to find a Big Lots in MD so I can pick up some for all my late-night snack cravings....

Homemade pickles

For Christmas, Mom gave me a homemade pickle recipe and a jar to make them. This isn't my batch, it's hers from her fridge. I didn't have a chance to taste 'em, but after we get our hands on some kirbies, I'll make up a batch and report back. They sure look good though!

Why didn't you tell me sooner?

Olga and Andrew have passed this place a million times but she only just told me about it now: Pickelz. We need to visit. From their website [emphasis added]:

Once upon a time in a far, far away land called Beverly Hills, a finicky prince who looooved pickles decided to open his own eatery. He was no chef but he loved great food, so he called upon his princess and a few friends who were fabulous cooks to help him. The Prince told them he didn't want to use anything that didn't come from nature, so all the recipes created were fresh and delicious! He told his loyal subjects that he wanted to use the best of the best! The best cut of beef, hormone free chicken, fresh Atlantic Salmon, fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and lots of other goodies!

The Prince said that from now on we will only use a GRILL when cooking! And of course he hadn't forgotten why he fell in love with food, so he made sure he had the most delectable and mouth watering Pickelz made from all kinds of vegetables! Some common ones like cucumber were used, and some not so common ones like Okra as well!

Bloody Mary @ The Rusty Nail

Post-Bayou Lafourche wedding, the guests gathered at The Rusty Nail to commiserate, watch the Saints beat the Falcons, and eat and drink some more. There's a bloody Mary bar and you have the option of getting a shrimp along with your pickled vegetables. All bloody Marys should include a shrimp. Just sayin'.
